Kentucky man found guilty but mentally ill in mansion shooting

A jury found Shannon Gilday guilty but mentally ill of murder, burglary, and attempted murder for shooting Jordan Morgan more than 25 times in her Richmond, Kentucky, mansion. The February 2022 attack was motivated by Gilday's desire to access the home's doomsday bunker.

On February 22, 2022, Gilday, then 27, climbed scaffolding to enter the mansion owned by Morgan, a 32-year-old attorney and daughter of a former state legislator. Prosecutors said he had studied the residents' sleep schedules and planned the invasion for weeks due to fears of a nuclear attack. Gilday shot Morgan through a door after she pleaded with him not to enter, then left her to bleed out before fleeing the scene.
