Mahigit 300 distressed na OFW, babalik sa Pilipinas dahil sa tensyon sa Middle East

Isang espesyal na chartered flight ang inorganisa ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration upang iuwi ang 341 distressed at stranded na overseas Filipino workers mula sa Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, at Bahrain dahil sa lumalang tensyon sa Middle East. Ang flight ay magsisimula sa Riyadh patungong Manila, at inaasahang darating ito sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) noong Marso 15, 2026. Susuportahan ng mga tauhan ng OWWA at medical team ang mga dumating.

Ang mga OFW mula sa Bahrain ay tinutulungan ng mga team mula sa OWWA, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), at mga embassy sa Riyadh at Manama upang ligtas na makatawid ng land borders patungo sa Riyadh. Samantala, ang mga mula sa Kuwait ay nakakatanggap ng tulong sa travel clearances at border crossings upang makarating sa staging area. Nagbibigay din ang gobyerno ng welfare assistance kabilang ang travel documentation, temporary accommodation, transport support, at iba pang urgent needs habang inaayos ang repatriation.

"Ang pangunahing layunin ng repatriation operation na ito ay matiyak ang kaligtasan ng ating mga OFW at maihatid sila nang ligtas pabalik sa kanilang mga pamilya sa Pilipinas," ayon sa pahayag ng OWWA sa Facebook. Ang operasyon ay pinondohan ng Emergency Repatriation Fund ng OWWA, at inaasikaso rin ang karagdagang charter flights para sa iba pang distressed OFW.

"Sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., pinangunahan ng OWWA ang pag-aayos ng charter flight na ito upang matulungan ang mga nais makauwi mula KSA, Kuwait, at Bahrain dahil sa patuloy na tensyon sa Middle East," dagdag ng ahensya.

Ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs, may 2.4 milyong Filipinos ang naninirahan at nagtatrabaho sa Middle East, kasama ang 813,000 sa Saudi Arabia, 211,000 sa Kuwait, at 973,000 sa UAE.
