Philippine Coast Guard magde-deploy ng mga barko at eroplano laban sa Chinese research vessels

Nag-anunsyo ang Philippine Coast Guard na magde-deploy ito ng mga sasakyang-dagat at mga eroplano upang hamunin at paalisin ang mga Chinese research vessels na gumagawa ng hindi batas na pananaliksik sa karagatan sa West Philippine Sea. Apat na Chinese vessels ang natukoy na umaandar sa Philippine waters nang walang pahintulot mula sa gobyerno. Ayon sa PCG, kinakailangan ang prior authorization para sa anumang foreign marine scientific research.

Sa isang pahayag noong Linggo, Mayo 3, sinabi ni Rear Adm. Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesperson para sa West Philippine Sea, na natukoy ang apat na Chinese research vessels gamit ang Canada’s Dark Vessel Detection System.

Kinilala ang mga ito bilang XIANGYANGHONG 33, na nakatayo 140.47 nautical miles northwest ng Rizal, Palawan, malapit sa Quirino Atoll; SHI YAN 1, 118 nautical miles west ng Itbayat, Batanes; JIA GENG, 88.36 nautical miles northeast ng Itbayat; at ZHUHAIYUN, 102.11 nautical miles northwest ng Bajo de Masinloc, o 171.18 nautical miles west ng Bolinao, Pangasinan.

"Ang mga aktibidad na ito ay lumalabag sa soberanya ng Pilipinas," aniya. Dagdag niya, magpapadala ang PCG ng assets upang ipahayag ang hurisdiksyon ng Pilipinas at tiyakin na huminto ang mga barko sa kanilang mga gawain.

Ang deployment ay para "challenge and drive away" ang mga barkong walang clearance, ayon sa PCG, na muling pinagdiin na kailangan ng pahintulot mula sa gobyerno para sa marine scientific research sa Philippine waters.
