Max Verstappen crashed out of the British Grand Prix after his Red Bull suffered a rear wing failure at Stowe corner with six laps remaining. The incident followed similar problems at the Austrian Grand Prix and added to ongoing issues with the car's power unit and balance.
Verstappen had battled poor handling and electrical deployment problems throughout the race but was still in contention for third place before the spin. He later described the wing issue as super dangerous and said he felt fed up after experiencing it twice in consecutive races.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies acknowledged the driver's anger and confirmed that a different type of failure occurred compared to Austria. He said the team would review the rotating rear wing design to prevent further incidents.
Verstappen had urged the team to replace the power unit after qualifying and start from the pitlane but the decision was not taken. Mekies explained that a pitlane start would likely have produced worse results than racing with the existing set-up.
The four-time world champion also stated he had little interest in discussions with Red Bull management before the Belgian Grand Prix and saw little chance of a late-season turnaround on energy-starved circuits.
