Dutch couple to reopen Guldkringlan in Grythyttan

A Dutch couple has moved to Grythyttan with their children and plans to reopen the closed patisserie Guldkringlan soon. The café shut down on September 1, 2025, due to lack of profitability. The couple aims to preserve traditions while developing the business, especially the coffee.

Heleen and Jouke, a couple from the Netherlands, have recently moved to Grythyttan in Örebro County with their children. They are taking over the operation of Guldkringlan, a well-known patisserie and café in the area, which closed on September 1, 2025, by previous owner Loka Brunn. The reason for the closure was primarily economic challenges with insufficient profitability.

The couple sees an opportunity to revive the business. “We want to do something really good with the café. Both keep what has been and develop it, including with regard to the coffee,” they tell Nerikes Allehanda. They plan to combine the traditional offerings with new elements to attract both locals and visitors.

Guldkringlan has been part of Grythyttan's local food culture, known for its pastries and cozy atmosphere. The move from Holland represents a typical example of international entrepreneurs investing in Swedish rural areas. The article is written by Anders Almgren and published in Nerikes Allehanda.
