Une installation solaire flottante au large de la côte ouest de Taïwan a généré plus d'électricité et rapporté davantage de bénéfices qu'un projet terrestre de taille similaire situé à proximité. Les chercheurs ont comparé les deux systèmes et ont constaté des avantages manifestes pour la version offshore, malgré les défis supplémentaires.

Chenya Energy a achevé en 2020-2021 cette ferme solaire flottante de 181 mégawatts sur 1,8 kilomètre carré d'eaux protégées dans une baie. L'année précédente, la Taiwan Power Company avait construit un projet terrestre de 100 mégawatts sur 1,4 kilomètre carré, permettant ainsi une comparaison directe après ajustement en fonction des différences de capacité.
