Joan Burstein, CBE, s'est éteinte paisiblement vendredi, comme l'ont confirmé ses enfants, Simon Burstein et Caroline Hammond, dans un communiqué. « C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons que notre merveilleuse mère... est partie paisiblement », ont-ils déclaré. Plus tôt cette année, en février, elle avait fêté son 100e anniversaire à son domicile d'Ibiza, dansant sur de la musique swing entourée de ses proches. Mme Burstein laisse dans le deuil deux enfants, sept petits-enfants et sept arrière-petits-enfants.
