La municipalité de Santiago a rouvert la piscine olympique chauffée du parc O’Higgins après un investissement de plus de 1,5 milliard de pesos. L'installation accueillera plus de 12 000 usagers par mois.

Les travaux ont duré 14 semaines et ont porté sur la modernisation du chauffage, de la filtration, de l'éclairage et des sanitaires. Des systèmes de contrôle d'accès numérique ont également été ajoutés.

Le maire Mario Desbordes a déclaré que plus de 1,5 milliard de pesos ont été dépensés pour rénover l'installation. Le sous-secrétaire aux Sports, Andrés Otero, le président de la Chambre des députés, Jorge Alessandri, et la nageuse Eliana Busch ont assisté à la cérémonie, au cours de laquelle Mme Busch a reçu une plaque honorifique.

M. Otero a souligné que l'investissement dans le sport permettrait de réduire les besoins hospitaliers futurs. M. Desbordes a également annoncé des projets pour un futur complexe sportif de 6,5 hectares sur l'ancien site de Fantasilandia.
