Le Trinamool nomme Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay chef de l'opposition

Le Congrès Trinamool a nommé Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay chef de l'opposition au sein de la 18e Assemblée législative du Bengale-Occidental le 9 mai 2026. Le parti a également désigné Firhad Hakim au poste de whip en chef et a nommé deux chefs adjoints.

Le Congrès Trinamool a choisi, le 9 mai 2026, le dirigeant expérimenté et député de Ballygunge, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, âgé de 82 ans, comme chef de l'opposition. Il a précédemment occupé les fonctions de ministre d'État à l'Agriculture et aux Affaires parlementaires.

Une déclaration du parti publiée par Abhishek Banerjee a également désigné Asima Patra et Nayna Bandyopadhya en tant que chefs adjoints de l'opposition. Firhad Hakim, maire de la corporation municipale de Kolkata, a été nommé whip en chef.

Mamata Banerjee, qui a perdu son siège à Bhabanipur, ne siégera pas à l'Assemblée. Elle a déclaré que le parti demeurerait une opposition forte, véhémente et sans compromis, tant à Delhi qu'au Bengale-Occidental.

Le BJP a remporté 207 sièges au sein de l'assemblée qui en compte 294.
