Finorri and Windsor highlight refined Catalan cuisine in Barcelona

The new Finorri restaurant has opened in Barcelona's Gòtic, betting on Catalan tradition in an elegant setting. Meanwhile, Windsor, open since 1996, offers its Menú Catalunya until the end of January. Both venues combine refinement and classic dishes to attract locals and visitors.

Finorri has recently opened in the ground floor of Hotel Comtal, in Ciutat Vella, near landmarks like Los Caracoles and Can Culleretes. Managed by brothers Santiago and Carolina Rama, second generation in charge of the hotel founded in 1893, the venue is independent and aims to be an entry point for Barcelonans. Under chefs Albert Soteras, Josep Nicolau, and Marc Vitega, it offers grills, stews, and off-menu dishes focused on Catalan tradition. The interior features English green velvet sofas, beige-molded walls, and large lamps, with round tables and wines recommended by sommelier Lluís Roig. Highlights include chicken stew with prawns, squid stuffed with eggplant, mushrooms, and sausage, or meatballs with monkfish cheeks. Off-menu options feature boletus with cured Iberian ham Maldonado and cured egg, or roast croquettes. The average price is 45 euros, open Tuesday to Saturday at Carrer de la Boqueria, 23.

Meanwhile, Windsor, in a recently updated modernista flat in Eixample, is directed by Joan Junyent for over twenty years. After the success of Menú Barcelona, it now offers Menú Catalunya, a homage to the land and Catalan identity, divided into three acts: Mediterranean coast, interior plain, and Pyrenees. It starts with an appetizer of scallops, L’Escala anchovies, and fried potatoes with vermouth. From the sea come cuttlefish with vinaigrette, red prawn in salt, cod fritter, or meatballs with cuttlefish. The transition includes coca de recapte with escalivada, cod with tomato and garlic mousseline, or mushroom omelette in escabeche. To finish, Cerdanya roast, Aran stew, and venison cannelloni. Desserts are crema catalana with panellets, carquinyolis, honey and mató, and a moscatell porronet. A shorter alternative is Menú Tradicions. Prices: 39.90 euros for Tradicions and 69 euros for Catalunya, open daily at Carrer Còrsega, 286.
