EBC approves new career and salary plan after ten years

The Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) approved a new Career and Remuneration Plan last week, demanded by workers for over ten years. The plan was validated by the Secretariat of Coordination and Governance of State-Owned Companies (Sest) and includes updated salary tables and mechanisms to correct inequalities.

The EBC, created in 2007, has faced workforce challenges in recent years. According to the Valoriza EBC organization, the state-owned company lost about 30% of its employees since 2016, leading to overload in areas such as TV Brasil, Agência Brasil, Rádio Nacional, Radioagência Nacional, and Canal Gov.

The new plan, approved last week, establishes updated salary tables, career progression rules, and tools to address distortions between different roles. The company emphasizes that the measure corrects inequalities and represents 'a path of professional valorization'.

Historically, the EBC held public contests in 2011 and 2013, as required by the law governing the company, which mandates permanent hires through contests under the CLT regime. In 2020, the state-owned entity was included in the federal privatization program but was removed from the list in 2023.

In December, protests took place in front of the EBC headquarters, where the management stated that discussions on a new public contest would resume only after the completion of the career plan. This development addresses a long-standing demand from employees, who have fought for salary structuring for over a decade.
