A Brazilian gamer has won a court case against Microsoft after his Xbox account was hacked and suspended. The court ordered the company to restore access and pay compensation.
The Redditor known as Ordo_Liberal reported that Microsoft support confirmed unauthorized access to the account but then suspended it permanently. The player was told to repurchase all digital games despite using two-factor authentication.
Ordo_Liberal filed suit in Brazil with a public defender at no cost. After a settlement attempt failed and Microsoft presented a 300-page defense with 12 lawyers, the court ruled in the gamer's favor.
The decision requires Xbox to restore the account within 15 days and pay around $400 for moral damages. Failure to comply could lead to further legal action including a criminal case.
Ordo_Liberal described the process in detail and noted that daily fines apply until compliance.
