Skyblivion mod delayed to 2026 from 2025 target

The ambitious Skyblivion mod, which remakes The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using Skyrim's engine, has been pushed back to 2026. Developer TESRenewal confirmed the delay in a recent update video, citing remaining challenges. Project lead Rebelzize emphasized that much of the project is in strong shape, with plans for post-launch enhancements.

Delay Announcement

TESRenewal announced the postponement of Skyblivion's release, originally targeted for 2025 as revealed in 2023. In an eight-and-a-half-minute video update, Rebelzize stated the team has known about the need for extra time but waited to share both the delay and forward-looking plans. "This is something we have known for a while," Rebelzize explained, "but we did not want to announce a delay without also sharing our current plans and ambitions for the release of the project."

Project Progress

Significant portions of Skyblivion are complete. The world map stands at 100 percent finished, with an interactive satellite version available for viewing. All quest dungeons have been remade and finalized, while random dungeons are mostly done. Interiors for houses, shops, castles, stables, inns, and chapels are complete, though the Imperial City awaits final assets and integration. Other cities are fully ready, and the team expects to wrap up all locations by year's end.

Weapons, armor, clothing, plants, clutter, and most architecture assets are finished, leaving only low-priority modeling tasks. UI elements are shifting toward a Skyrim-style interface, and mechanics are advancing based on internal feedback. Major systems should conclude by December, paving the way for quest finalization, navmesh adjustments, and quality assurance in 2026. The team plans wider playtesting later and seeks volunteers for cinematic work.

Future Plans and Omissions

Post-release, TESRenewal aims to polish, balance, and fix issues while adding updates like custom content and Oblivion DLC such as Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Planned features include spell crafting, dynamic dungeons, grave robbing, more creature variety, followers, unique weapons, and spells. Underwater combat, though partially implemented, was dropped due to animation conflicts and technical hurdles but may return later.

Rebelzize wrapped up by thanking supporters for backing the decade-long project: "We thank you all for your continued support of this ambitious project I started more than ten years ago. And I really, genuinely cannot wait to get Skyblivion into your hands."
