John Bolton mengaku bersalah atas dakwaan dokumen rahasia

Mantan penasihat keamanan nasional John Bolton mengaku bersalah pada hari Jumat atas satu dakwaan penyalahgunaan informasi rahasia. Pengakuan ini menyelesaikan satu dari 18 dakwaan yang diajukan terhadapnya tahun lalu.

Bolton mengakui telah menyimpan materi rahasia secara ilegal saat menulis memoarnya, The Room Where It Happened. Jaksa mengatakan bahwa ia membagikan lebih dari 1.000 halaman kepada istri dan putrinya, termasuk detail intelijen mengenai rencana pihak lawan dan program tindakan rahasia.

Berdasarkan kesepakatan tersebut, Bolton akan membayar denda sebesar $2,25 juta dan menghadapi ancaman hukuman hingga lima tahun penjara. Sidang pembacaan vonis dijadwalkan pada 28 Oktober.

Investigasi dimulai pada tahun 2020 dan berujung pada penggeledahan FBI di rumahnya di Maryland pada Agustus 2025. Jaksa AS Kelly O. Hayes mencatat bahwa Bolton mengetahui risiko dari penyalahgunaan informasi tersebut.

Bolton mengatakan kepada hakim bahwa ia menyesali pelanggaran tersebut.
