NCW criticizes TCS over toxic work culture at Nashik office

The National Commission for Women has condemned Tata Consultancy Services for failing to prevent sexual harassment and maintain proper complaint systems at its Nashik office. The commission's report highlights pervasive abuse of authority and religious denigration in the workplace. Nine individuals face charges in related criminal cases.

The National Commission for Women released its findings on May 11 after a fact-finding committee visited the TCS Nashik site in April. The committee described a workplace where senior staff allegedly targeted young women with sexual harassment, emotional pressure, and anti-Hindu comments. Victims reportedly faced barriers to reporting incidents due to missing formal procedures and fear of retaliation.

The 50-page document was submitted to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 8 and contains 25 recommendations. These include stronger grievance mechanisms, job safeguards for complainants, and additional charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abuse of authority. Police have registered nine FIRs involving alleged rape, harassment, and forced conversions, resulting in nine arrests.

One accused, Nida Khan, was taken into judicial custody for 14 days until May 24 after her arrest on May 7. The commission named three men as primary offenders who were allegedly shielded by the local HR head, Ashwini Chainani.
