Translator Hwang Seok-hee's content pulled from platforms amid sex offense reports

Famous translator Hwang Seok-hee's appearances have been removed from major streaming platforms and online bookstores following reports of prior sex offense convictions. Episodes of TvN's "You Quiz on the Block" and MBC's "Point of Omniscient Interfere" were taken down from Tving and Wavve, respectively, and sales of his essays halted. Hwang responded on Instagram, warning of legal action against false reporting.

Major streaming platforms Tving and Wavve have removed episodes featuring translator Hwang Seok-hee from TvN's "You Quiz on the Block" and MBC's "Point of Omniscient Interfere," including highlight clips. Large online bookstores have also halted sales of his essays.

The actions follow a Tuesday media report revealing that Hwang received suspended sentences in two separate sex offense cases. In response, Hwang posted on Instagram that he was consulting his lawyer and would pursue legal action against any false or unverifiable reporting. He could not be reached for further comment as of Tuesday evening.

Hwang rose to prominence with his translation of the 2016 action-comedy "Deadpool." He has since built a career translating major Hollywood films, most recently the sci-fi movie "Project Hail Mary."

He is reportedly involved in translating the upcoming "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," slated for July release, though distributor Sony Pictures Korea has not issued a statement on his role.
