Some Chinese companies interested in bidding for Bogotá's Metro Line 2

Chinese companies have shown interest in bidding for Bogotá's Metro Line 2, as confirmed by the head of the Colombia-China Business Association. This follows the lack of offers for construction in January. Line 1 is 72% complete and expected to operate in 2028.

Bogotá's Metro Line 2 faces bidding challenges but may attract international participation. At the end of January, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán announced no offers were received for construction after the deadline. Nonetheless, the district administration insists the works will proceed: an international public bidding will launch in February, expecting proposals in September and starting construction in 2027.

"It doesn't mean this line won't continue. We'll open an international public bidding in February; we have support and credits from multilateral banks," Galán stated.

In this context, Ding Wen, general manager of the Colombia-China Business Association, revealed interest from companies in his country for the project. During a Chinese New Year celebration at Parque de los Novios, Wen confirmed to Caracol Radio their intent to contribute technology to benefit Bogotans.

"We have interests in participating in the bidding for Bogotá's Metro Line 2. We want to contribute with our technology to improve the lives of Bogotans," Wen noted. He also highlighted Line 1's progress, at 72% completion and slated to operate in 2028.

"Line 1 has a 72% advance. We have confidence to start operations in two years, that is, in 2028," he added. This Chinese interest could revitalize the bidding process, backed by multilateral financing.
