House votes to expel kiko barzaga from congress

The House of Representatives expelled Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga on June 2 for disorderly behavior and violations of house rules.

Lawmakers voted 265-14 with eight abstentions during a plenary session to remove the neophyte congressman. The decision followed a recommendation from the ethics and privileges committee chaired by Representative JC Abalos.

Barzaga had faced two prior 60-day suspensions in December 2025 and February 2026 for gross misconduct and defamatory social media posts. He had gone live on Facebook during sessions, calling the House a crocodile farm and making corruption allegations.

Ethics committee chairman JC Abalos stated that Barzaga engaged in a pattern of highly disruptive and discourteous behavior that obstructed sessions. Barzaga told reporters it was his last day and urged colleagues not to steal so much.

The expulsion marks only the second such case in Philippine history, following Arnie Teves in 2023. The National Bureau of Investigation separately filed a complaint over Barzaga's posts accusing agents of assassination attempts.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote Monday on transmitting articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate. Lawmakers say support has grown to at least 225 members, well above the 106 votes required.

The Commission on Elections says former representative Kiko Barzaga remains eligible to run in the special election in Dasmariñas, Cavite despite his expulsion from the House of Representatives.

A Senate ethics complaint against Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, seeking a “no work, no pay” sanction for his prolonged absences amid an ICC arrest warrant, is set for dismissal, as the penalty is not in Senate rules, ethics committee chair Sen. JV Ejercito said.

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa left the Senate compound early on May 14 after a shooting incident the previous night. The move came as he seeks to block enforcement of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity.
