SHA suspends MP Shah Hospital for 90 days over complaints

The Social Health Authority has suspended MP Shah Hospital from the government health insurance scheme for 90 days following multiple patient complaints.

In a June 23, 2026 letter signed by CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, SHA stated it had received numerous complaints about health services at the hospital.

Some patients were forced to pay out of pocket for services that should be fully covered by SHIF. The hospital was also accused of claiming less than entitled from SHA.

Cases under review include Baby Thompson, who was charged Sh83,308 on May 3, 2026, as well as those involving Guyo Rendille, P.N. Gupta and Vyonne Gakii. The hospital is barred from admitting or treating SHIF patients until the investigation concludes.
