テスラは7月6日より、従業員がAIツールに使用する経費を週200ドルまでに制限する。一部のエンジニアが毎週数千ドル相当のトークンを消費していたことを受けた方針転換となる。なお、この制限はxAI製品のベータ版には適用されない。
テスラは社内メモを通じて、従業員に新たな制限を通知した。この措置は、トークン使用量で従業員をランク付けするダッシュボードの導入など、数カ月にわたって全社的にAI活用を推進してきた流れを受けたものだ。
今回の新方針では、週ごとの上限を超える支出には承認が必要となる。これは、トークン課金型のAIサービス利用料が増大する中、UberやMeta、Walmartなどが実施しているのと同様のコスト管理策である。
テスラは「Nova」と呼ばれる社内AIツールをリリースしており、会社支給のデバイスから外部モデルへのアクセスを制限している。経営陣は、同社の企業価値を車両やロボティクスへの広範なAI活用と結びつけている。
なお、社内ではxAIツールの試験利用が推奨されているものの、多くのエンジニアはGrok以外のモデルを好んで使用していると報じられている。
