Woman and two teens arrested at Hong Kong airport over suspected weapons in luggage

In the latest of several recent incidents at Hong Kong's airport, a woman and two teenagers have been arrested after suspected pepper spray canisters and brass knuckles were found in their luggage bound for the US and Canada. Police received reports of the prohibited items during security checks. The trio were released on bail pending further investigation.

Hong Kong police said on Tuesday that they had received three reports the previous day after suspected prohibited items were discovered in one piece of checked luggage and two carry-on bags during security checks at the city's airport.

The items were found in luggage bound for Canada and the United States. A 15-year-old girl heading to Canada had what police suspect to be brass knuckles in her checked bag. Meanwhile, suspected pepper spray canisters were discovered in the carry-on bags of a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old en route to the United States.

The trio were arrested on suspicion of breaching the Aviation Security Ordinance and the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance following a preliminary investigation. They were later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Hong Kong airport maintains strict security measures at this major international hub to prevent potential risks to passengers.
