Amazon has introduced a new feature called Greetings that allows Alexa+ to interact with visitors via compatible Ring doorbells. The AI-powered tool detects who is at the door and responds conversationally, helping manage deliveries and other interactions. It is rolling out today for early access users in the US and Canada.
Amazon announced the Greetings feature on December 18, 2025, integrating its Alexa+ voice assistant with Ring video doorbells to enable automated conversations at the front door. This update combines Ring's Video Descriptions, an AI system that analyzes camera footage to identify visitors based on their clothing, items they carry, or actions, with Alexa+, a more advanced version of the assistant powered by a large language model.
"Ring's camera determines who's there based on what they're wearing, holding, or their actions," an Amazon spokesperson stated. "Alexa uses this visual context, any information the visitor shares, and the instructions it's been given."
Users can customize responses to handle various scenarios without revealing whether they are home. For instance, the doorbell can instruct delivery drivers in uniforms to leave packages at the back door or out of sight, politely inform solicitors that the household is not interested, or ask friends to leave a message if the residents are unavailable. It also supports follow-up questions, such as when someone will return or if an access code is needed for entry.
The feature operates independently of other smart home controls and can direct visitors to pre-set amenities like water and snacks. All interactions are recorded and reviewable later through the Ring app, providing context on porch activity.
Greetings is available only for the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) and Ring Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen), requiring a Ring Premium Plan and Video Descriptions enabled. Access is limited to Alexa+ Early Access participants in the US and Canada, in English only. Amazon describes it as transforming the doorbell into "an intelligent assistant capable of determining who's at the door, understanding what they need and responding conversationally," whether users are home or away.
While promising convenience, the reliance on AI raises questions about accuracy, especially in varied conditions like winter weather where uniforms might not be worn.
