Toyota to close Indaiatuba factory on June 30

Toyota will shut down its Indaiatuba plant in São Paulo state on June 30, 2026, after 28 years of operation.

The plant has produced more than one million vehicles since 1998. Corolla Sedan output moved to Sorocaba, with the shift beginning in 2024.

The company plans to open a second Sorocaba factory in November 2026 as part of an 11 billion reais investment program through 2030. The expansion created roughly two thousand direct jobs in the area.

The Sorocaba metalworkers union views the move positively and projects eight thousand indirect positions. Workers received transfer options or negotiated severance packages, with no unilateral layoffs.

The 2024 announcement prompted a strike and talks with the Campinas union. The deal included job stability and extra benefits for those affected.
