Researchers at the University of Calgary are studying whether high doses of vitamin B3 (niacin) can improve outcomes for patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma when added to standard treatment. An interim analysis of 24 patients found a higher-than-expected six‑month progression‑free survival rate, though investigators stress the results are preliminary and require ongoing safety monitoring.
Researchers at USC Stem Cell have developed a method to produce large numbers of immune cell precursors that can be engineered to target cancer. The approach, published in the journal Cell, uses granulocyte-monocyte progenitors that self-renew in the laboratory.

Researchers have used genetically modified phages to harness pre-existing vaccine immunity and destroy cancer cells in mice. The approach eradicated tumors in 44 percent of treated animals with no recurrence after a year.
A research team led by Université de Montréal immunologist André Veillette reports that the immune receptor SLAMF6 can inhibit T cells by activating through interactions on the T cell surface itself, a mechanism the authors say could help explain why some patients fail to respond—or later stop responding—to checkpoint-based cancer immunotherapies. In the same study, the researchers describe monoclonal antibodies designed to block SLAMF6’s self-interaction, which boosted T-cell activity in laboratory tests and strengthened anti-tumor responses in mouse experiments.

A Phase II randomized trial found that a six-week, home-based walking and resistance program improved attention test performance and reduced reports that others noticed cognitive problems among patients receiving chemotherapy. Low-dose ibuprofen improved some attention measures but showed mixed results on memory outcomes. The study was published in Cancer.
New research from Mass General Brigham shows that the thymus, a small organ once thought irrelevant in adults, strongly influences lifespan and disease risk. Using AI on CT scans, scientists linked better thymic health to lower risks of death and cancer progression.
