15 prison service employees reported for suspected bribes

Kriminalvården has reported 15 staff members to prosecutors after they received gifts from a consulting doctor. The gifts included hotel stays and a Christmas buffet.

The authority reported the staff at prisons in Nyköping, Sala, Västerås and Uppsala to the National Anti-Corruption Unit. The report followed an internal investigation during the spring. Twelve employees were invited in January to dinner and an overnight stay at Steam Hotel in Västerås. A consulting doctor paid for the event and had several contracts with Kriminalvården. The gift was valued between 995 and 4 682 kronor per person. Three staff at the detention centre in Uppsala were also invited to a Christmas buffet in December. The consulting doctor was reported to the police after the contract ended. HR Director Anders Liif described the events as serious.
