BGN ensures MBG services continue during Lebaran holiday

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has assured that the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) for toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers will continue during the Lebaran holiday. The program is designed to meet only one-third of the daily nutritional needs of beneficiaries. This clarification addresses circulating narratives on social media.

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has stated that services under the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) for vulnerable groups—toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers (3B)—will continue during the Lebaran holiday. This assurance was given on March 9, 2026.

Additionally, Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, explained that MBG is designed to fulfill only one-third of the daily nutritional requirements, not a full day's needs. "It should be understood that MBG is indeed not designed to meet all daily nutritional needs. The program is designed to meet about one-third of the nutritional needs of the beneficiaries," Nanik said in Jakarta on that Monday.

This explanation responds to narratives claiming that the MBG menu falls short of required nutrition levels. Nanik added that the menu composition standards consider energy, protein, carbohydrates, and relevant micronutrients for the beneficiaries. The program's main goal is to build healthy and nutritious eating habits for future generations.

BGN also emphasized that the MBG program is implemented with clear and structured technical guidelines. All technical instructions (juknis) for MBG implementation have been uploaded to the official BGN website and are openly accessible to the public and implementing partners. These documents cover standards for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), food processing, food safety, and nutritional composition in each menu.

Through this transparency, BGN hopes public discussions on MBG will be constructive, based on data and official documents.
