Carmageddon: Rogue Shift update adds new vehicle and improves handling

Developer 34BigThings has released a patch for Carmageddon: Rogue Shift that overhauls vehicle handling and introduces a new car. The update addresses previous criticisms of loose controls and celebrates a player milestone. Console versions will follow after platform approval.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, a roguelite spin-off developed by Redout creator 34BigThings, launched earlier this month as a surprise return for the combat racing series. The game faced criticism for its loose vehicle handling, but a new PC patch released on February 27 addresses this with an overhauled driving physics model.

The update features improved tyre physics that provide “more progressive grip loss,” making the default steering more responsive. Players can now tweak steering linearity, and the “acceleration curve” is more responsive at low speeds or in reverse. According to the developer, these changes stem from beta feedback, with additional adjustments to prevent over-tuning. Some settings may be overridden by the patch, so players should check their configurations.

To mark the milestone of players killing 50 million Wasted—Rogue Shift’s zombies—a new all-wheel-drive vehicle called the Grosso has been added. Its innate perk, Lock Jammer, extends immunity to weapon locks after boosting or sidebashing. The car unlocks automatically upon updating and appears in the garage. A new bonnet camera allows closer views of the action; switch to it by pressing ‘C’ on keyboard or up on the d-pad for consoles.

The patch is currently PC-only on Steam, with console rollouts pending approval and including extra crash fixes. Future updates will add steering wheel support and a Challenge mode. Other fixes include ongoing work on crashes and enemy AI, resolutions for the Final Boss disappearing, Steam Deck minimap issues, cursor drift on the campaign map, faster garage loading, and reworked sound effects for better clarity. Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is Steam Deck Verified, supporting seamless progress syncing via Steam Cloud.
