Forshaga board split over Hockeyettan future

A rift has surfaced inside Forshaga over whether the club should keep its A-team in Hockeyettan after reports of a possible rescue by private backers.

Last week the club announced plans to withdraw from Hockeyettan. On Sunday newspaper VF reported that private lenders might forgive debts if the team stays in the league. Board member Henrik Staf told VF that the board had already agreed at a meeting to shut down the A-team. He described chairman Christer Larsson's comments about an upcoming vote as strange and said he knew nothing about the private actors. Larsson said a final decision rests with the annual meeting on 16 June because only that body can remove ice hockey from the club's sports programme. Staf stressed that acute debts of around 500000 kronor and the ice hall must come first. Staf added that any private help should cover the whole club including its youth sections rather than focus only on the senior team.

Attendance hit a low of 6,668 amid fan struggles. Players and staff voiced deep disappointment but vowed a quick return via HockeyAllsvenskan.
