The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) is pushing for a total ban on electronic cigarettes after its labs detected narcotics in hundreds of illegal liquid samples circulating in society. The findings were discussed in a meeting with DPR Commission III.
Abdullah from the PKB faction said, "Such policies must go through mature stages. Many small business actors depend on vape sales, and many people use them too." He acknowledged BNN's findings as a serious fact but rejected reactive policies without in-depth studies that could create new problems.
According to Abdullah, the core issue is illegal products without excise stamps, not the entire regulated vape ecosystem. "If systemic misuse for drug distribution is proven, support for a ban is certainly there. However, the policy must go through very mature stages, data-based, and not done abruptly," he stated.
He highlighted the real threat of drug distribution via vapes to youth but stressed proportional handling. Meanwhile, Rudianto Lallo from the NasDem faction welcomed BNN Chief Komjen Pol Suyudi Ario Seto's proposal for a ban as a preventive measure.
The Narcotics and Psychotropics Bill has entered the 2026 Priority National Legislation Program, providing a key opportunity to discuss vape-related policies.
