Leksand to hold referendum on private roads this autumn

Leksand's municipal council decided Monday evening to hold a referendum on municipal support for private roads during the September 13 election.

The municipal council voted in favor of the majority's proposed question wording by 23 votes to 16, with one abstention.

The question posed to Leksand residents reads: Should the municipality work to offer support for private roads according to current law, regulations and agreements? The answer options include yes with conditions of no cuts to welfare or tax increases, yes even if it involves such consequences, no, and abstain.

Johan Fändriks from ByP criticized the wording, saying it differs from the popular initiative's original question on municipal responsibility for the roads. Municipal councillor Sebastian Larsson from the Moderates defended the choice of the term support to provide better basis for future decisions.

Over 2 800 people had signed the petition that led to the referendum.
