Madbouly inaugurates plastics factory in North Sinai's Bir El-Abd

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated the National Sinai for Plastic Industries (NSPI) factory in Bir El-Abd as part of a tour of development and infrastructure projects in North Sinai. The visit included inspections of road upgrades and a major railway project. Officials emphasized these efforts support economic growth in the peninsula.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly began his tour with an unscheduled stop to inspect upgrades on the 20-kilometre Al-Mathlath Checkpoint–Gelbana–Balouza road, developed under the presidential Decent Life initiative by the Ministry of Transport. He also reviewed maintenance and expansion works on the Qantara East-Arish road, including resurfacing, lane widening, and safety enhancements.

Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir stated that Egypt is implementing major infrastructure projects in Sinai in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development. He noted that upgrading road networks is key to attracting investment in agriculture, industry, and tourism, while improving access to essential services like education and healthcare.

At the factory inauguration in the Bir El-Abd industrial zone, Madbouly described it as a tangible step in the state's strategy to expand industrial development, particularly in North Sinai with its untapped potential. Built on a 20,000-square-metre site with EGP 530m investments, it is the first industrial project there. The facility produces woven polypropylene bags for packaging cement, sugar, flour, and animal feed, with an annual capacity of 55 million units using advanced Indian production lines introduced to Egypt for the first time. It employs 170 workers, 46% from Sinai.

Madbouly also inspected progress on the 353-kilometre Bir El-Abd-Arish-Ras El-Naqab railway, part of the Arish-Taba logistics corridor, including the Bir El-Abd-Arish segment and a 12-kilometre link to Arish Port. He directed officials to accelerate timelines, emphasizing enhanced road safety, transport efficiency, and benefits for citizens.
