New Year starts with rainy, cloudy skies

Several parts of the country can expect rainy weather to kick off the New Year, according to PAGASA on January 1. The Northeast Monsoon is affecting northern and central Luzon, while a shear line is bringing rain to MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Quezon.

According to the daily weather bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Northeast Monsoon is influencing many areas in northern and central Luzon. This is leading to cloudy skies and scattered rains in those regions.

Meanwhile, a shear line is causing cloudy conditions and intermittent rains in MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Quezon. PAGASA has warned these areas of potential flash floods and landslides, especially during heavier rainfall.

Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas are under the influence of easterly winds, resulting in partly cloudy skies with isolated rains. There is a risk of more intense thunderstorms, prompting similar warnings for flash floods and landslides.

The remainder of the country, including Metro Manila, will see partly cloudy skies due to the Northeast Monsoon. Aside from cooler temperatures, PAGASA reports no significant impacts. The highest forecasted temperature is 29.2°C at 11:00 a.m., with the lowest at 23.2°C at 5:00 a.m.
