Simona Mohamsson: Not relevant to raise reduction obligation

The government rejects the proposal to raise the reduction obligation and fuel tax required to meet climate targets.

Simona Mohamsson, leader of the Liberals, stated that proposals to raise the reduction obligation or diesel taxes are not relevant. She stressed that the party does not want to pursue a climate policy that goes against the Swedish people.

The investigation handed to acting Climate and Environment Minister Johan Britz proposed increasing the reduction obligation to 21 percent in 2028, 23 percent in 2029 and 25 percent in 2030. Investigator Svante Mandell said fuel prices need to rise by about three kronor per liter.

Mohamsson instead highlighted electrification and expansion of nuclear power as priority measures. She cited the ongoing energy crisis linked to the Iranian regime as an important factor in the discussion.
