Algumas escolas no distrito de Garden Route, na África do Sul, continuam fechadas após as recentes inundações e danos causados pelo vento que isolaram várias comunidades.

O Centro de Gestão de Desastres de Garden Route relatou fechamentos contínuos nas áreas afetadas. Os municípios fizeram progresso na reabertura de estradas por toda a região.

O chefe de desastres, Gerhard Otto, disse que cestas básicas continuam sendo distribuídas para locais isolados. "Cestas básicas estão sendo levadas para Avontuur e Kammenassie para serem distribuídas em áreas que estão isoladas, onde conseguimos acessar", afirmou.

Cerca de mil pessoas permanecem alojadas em centros comunitários enquanto as avaliações das casas prosseguem. As autoridades planejam transportar suprimentos por via aérea para zonas inacessíveis no dia 13 de maio, se as condições climáticas permitirem, e os moradores poderão retornar para casa assim que o tempo abrir.
