Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) intensified into a super typhoon early Sunday morning, prompting Signal No. 5 in Catanduanes and parts of the Bicol region. Landfall is expected in Catanduanes in the morning or Aurora in the evening, with strong winds and heavy rain. PAGASA warned of floods, landslides, and storm surges in many areas.
On November 9, 2025, Super Typhoon Uwan's maximum sustained winds reached 185 km/h, with gustiness up to 230 km/h, according to PAGASA's 8 a.m. bulletin. It was located 125 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west northwest at 25 km/h. It may make landfall in Catanduanes in the morning, then Aurora in the evening or early Monday, before crossing Northern Luzon.
Signal No. 5, indicating typhoon-force winds of 185 km/h, was raised over Catanduanes, northern Camarines Norte, eastern Camarines Sur, and Polillo Islands. Signal No. 4 covered eastern Quezon and other Bicol parts. Thousands in Bicol and Eastern Visayas already faced howling winds, heavy rain, and storm surges, as seen in Baras and Virac in Catanduanes, and Pio Duran in Albay.
In Pandan, Catanduanes, heavy rain seeped into the municipal hall serving as an evacuation center for over 230 residents. “Continuous monitoring and forced evacuation are being carried out by the Local Government Unit as of the moment,” said Nesbenig De Quiros of the DSWD Municipal Office. Several roads in Benguet were closed due to landslides, including Kennon Road.
Intense to torrential rain exceeding 200 mm is forecast for Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, and Bicol, raising risks of flooding and landslides. High risk of storm surges over 3 meters affects many coastal areas, including Metro Manila and Northern Samar. Many LGUs in Luzon suspended classes for November 10, and all government agencies are on full alert for evacuations and relief.
President Marcos reminded: “All agencies of the government are on full alert and have immediately acted to ensure the safety of our countrymen.” Uwan is the 21st cyclone of 2025, following the deadly Typhoon Tino.
