Team TG withdraws from Elitettan, replaced by Enskede

Umeå-based Team TG has withdrawn from Elitettan due to financial issues, just weeks before their opener against ÖSK. They are replaced by Enskede IK, who take over the entire schedule. The news came as a shock to Team TG's players, leaving them without a league to play in.

ÖSK's women's team was set to kick off the 2026 Elitettan season with an away match against Team TG in Umeå. But due to financial difficulties, the Umeå club announced its withdrawal from the league. Enskede IK steps in as replacement, the best runner-up from Division 1 in the 2025 season.

Team TG's decision stems from main sponsor Thoréngruppen ending its support after this year. The finances have already collapsed, and on December 29, coach and sporting director Jonas Wikström resigned in protest over the club's management. The next day, players learned they would need to raise funds themselves for participation. But soon after, Enskede announced on Instagram that they had taken the Elitettan spot, without informing Team TG.

"It's clear that one feels betrayed, angry, sad, and hurt all at once," says team captain Linnea Lindström to Västerbottens-Kuriren. She describes the shock upon seeing the news during New Year's preparations: "We haven't received any indication that there wouldn't be play in Elitettan, which we've asked several times."

Enskede, who finished second in Division 1 Mellersta behind Husqvarna, looks forward to the step up. "For us, this means taking the next step in a long-term investment. We look forward to stepping up to Elitettan with humility and responsibility," the club writes on its website. They take over Team TG's schedule directly, including the premiere at Behrn Arena on March 28-29 against ÖSK.

This is not the first time a team has withdrawn from Elitettan. Ahead of 2020, LB07, Kungsbacka, and Assi pulled out; in 2022 it was Morön, and in 2023 Bergdalens IK. Team TG's future is uncertain—they may be forced to Division 1 or lower. Lindström highlights the players' hardship: "It's us players who are hit very hard. Many have moved here to elite-compete and may now end up in Division 2 or 3."

Leksands IF was relegated from the SHL after a 2-1 overtime defeat to HV71 in the decisive fourth game of the relegation qualification series at Tegera Arena, completing a 4-0 sweep—the first such drop since 2018/19 and with no historical precedent for overturning a 0-3 deficit in Swedish hockey qualifiers. Attendance hit a low of 6,668 amid fan struggles. Players and staff voiced deep disappointment but vowed a quick return via HockeyAllsvenskan.

Emma Åström scored both goals as Örebro SK kicked off the Elitettan season with a 2-1 home win over newcomers Enskede IK. The match at Behrn Arena ended tensely after a late concession.
