Hyundai unveils first Ioniq V for China market

Hyundai Motor Co. unveiled the Ioniq V, its first production model under the Ioniq brand for China, at the 2026 Beijing auto show. The vehicle is built on a platform jointly developed with Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group) and features a battery from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL). It offers more than 600 kilometers on a single charge.

Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automaker, took the wraps off the Ioniq V at the 2026 Beijing auto show on Friday, April 24. The model, derived from the Venus Concept, introduces Hyundai's new design language "The Origin" for its China EV lineup and reflects a "best first impression" philosophy. It boasts over 600 kilometers of range and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

The Ioniq V precedes a full EV launch later this year and is built on a platform co-developed with partner Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), with batteries from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL). Hyundai plans 20 new models in China over five years, including an electrified SUV in the first half of 2027, targeting 500,000 annual sales in the world's largest auto market.

"China is an essential market for Hyundai Motor. The world's most demanding EV consumers, the fastest development cycles, the deepest battery supply chain and an advanced innovation ecosystem. That is why we are tripling down on our commitment to China," said Jose Munoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor.

Chang Jae-hoon, vice chair of Hyundai Motor Group, addressed the company's less than 1 percent market share last year, stating, "China is the most difficult market, but we will turn around and succeed." Hyundai will expand ties with CATL for batteries and Momenta for ADAS.
