Digital skills demanded by Colombia's business sector

Digitalization is reshaping Colombia's job market, with 44% of required skills set to change in five years per the World Economic Forum. Compensar has trained over 8,000 employees in areas like AI and automation through its Idea 4.0 program. This effort addresses the projected shortage of up to 112,000 software developers by 2025.

The rise of artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics is redefining productivity in Colombian organizations. According to the World Economic Forum, 44% of skills needed for jobs will change in the next five years. The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) warns that Colombia could face a shortage of 68,000 to 112,000 software developers by 2025, highlighting the need to invest in digital training.

Compensar, via its corporate university, launched Idea 4.0 in 2021 as a digital learning network. To date, it has reached 8,300 employees with over 10,000 training hours in 2025, through virtual and synchronous modes. The program provides 23 learning paths and 15 specializations in topics like generative AI, data modeling, Power BI dashboards, UI and UX interface design, and business intelligence. Certifications are issued with partners including UCompensar, Universidad del Rosario, Universidad EAN, Innova, Sofka Technologies, and Build Innovate Transform Institute.

Beyond training, Idea 4.0 promotes collaborative practice communities. The 'automation community' has implemented 25 low- and medium-complexity automations, streamlining processes and enhancing customer experiences. This has led to 14 user experience (UX) prototypes designed and 9 in production.

"Promoting the digital development of teams is, more than an option, a strategic decision that ensures companies better adapt to environmental changes," said Andrés Garzón, manager of CoE and Human Talent Operations at Compensar. He added: "Solutions generated by these groups [...] translate into innovation, efficiency, agility, and sustainability".

The program also enables internal mobility, allowing certified individuals to take on new roles and fostering an organizational agility culture.
