Joaquín Lavín visits son at Capitán Yáber annex prison

Former mayor Joaquín Lavín Infante visited his son Joaquín Lavín León for the first time at the Capitán Yáber annex prison on Wednesday afternoon.

Lavín Infante spoke briefly with the press after the meeting. He said his son was calm and hopeful despite the circumstances. The son has been held in pretrial detention since last Friday on charges of fraud against the Treasury, influence peddling and forgery.

The former mayor thanked the family for messages of support. He noted that they prefer to avoid television and newspapers to maintain peace. The visit came one day after the Santiago Court declared a habeas corpus petition against the pretrial detention admissible.

During an earlier visit on Monday, Lavín Infante expressed family pain and reaffirmed his belief in the innocence of his son and Cathy Barriga.
