Migrations allows exit for Venezuelans with expired documents for humanitarian reasons

The National Migration Service announced a protocol allowing Venezuelan residents in Chile to leave with expired documents following the earthquakes in Venezuela.

Migrations director Frank Sauerbaum explained that the measure is based on humanitarian reasons and article 157 N°4 of the Migration and Foreigners Law.

Regular residents, irregular residents and even those who entered through unauthorized paths may opt for this exit, provided their destination is Venezuela.

Irregular residents must prove payment of the corresponding fine online through the Sermig portal. Those who entered irregularly will be controlled by the Investigative Police at Arturo Merino Benítez Airport.

Sauerbaum noted that many Venezuelan citizens face emotional stress due to the loss of family members or wish to help rebuild their country.
