Taal Volcano sulfur dioxide emissions drop

Taal Volcano emitted 129 metric tons of sulfur dioxide over the past 24 hours, down from 289 metric tons daily in recent days, according to PHIVOLCS.

LUCENA CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported the decline in its Tuesday morning bulletin. The latest figure remains above the year's lowest daily output of 59 metric tons recorded on July 14.

PHIVOLCS also detected three volcanic earthquakes and two volcanic tremor events lasting between four and 480 minutes. The volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating possible sudden steam-driven eruptions and hazardous gas emissions.

No upwelling of hot fluids was observed in the Main Crater Lake, and no volcanic smog was detected. Entry to Taal Volcano Island stays prohibited, and aircraft are advised to avoid the crater area.

Resultaten publicerades i Geophysical Research Letters.
