Toyota gradually shifts Tacoma production from Mexico to US

Toyota announced on July 7 the gradual move of Tacoma pickup production from Tijuana to the United States, a shift set to conclude in 2030.

The Japanese automaker produced 310,152 vehicles in Mexico during 2025, of which 269,958 were Tacoma and 40,194 were Tacoma HEV. In the first half of 2026 it assembled 159,033 units and held the sixth national position.

Julio Galván, manager of Economic Studies at the National Auto Parts Industry, noted that the adjustment represents a partial and gradual reconfiguration of North American operations, not an exit from Mexico. The company is reviewing the future of the Tijuana plant.

Other brands are also adjusting operations. Nissan closed its CIVAC plant in Morelos in March and seeks to cut costs on models made in the country. Honda will move HR-V production from Celaya, while Stellantis will shift part of its pickup manufacturing.
