Bei ya nyama ya ng'ombe nchini imepanda kutoka Sh400 mwaka 2020 hadi Sh750-Sh900 kwa kilo sasa, kutokana na msimu wa mvua wa mapema. Wakulima wamehifadhi mifugo ili kuinenepesha, na hivyo kupunguza usambazaji sokoni. Mkuu wa Mauzo wa KMC Lydia Mandila ameeleza kuwa bei za mifugo zimepanda asilimia 40 ikilinganishwa na mwaka jana.

Ongezeko la bei la nyama ya ng'ombe limeathiri wateja na wauzaji katika masoko na maduka, ambapo idadi ya wateja imepungua kwa baadhi ya wamiliki wa maduka.

Lydia Mandila, Mkuu wa Mauzo katika Kampuni ya Nyama nchini (KMC), amefafanua kuwa msimu wa mvua unasababisha wakulima kuhifadhi mifugo badala ya kuiuza. “Mvua inaponyesha, wakulima huhodhi mifugo ili kuinenepesha. Hii hupunguza bidhaa sokoni. Wakati huo huo, wateja huzidi kuongezeka, na kusukuma bei juu,” alisema Mandila.

Bei za mifugo zimepanda maradufu mwaka huu, na kawaida hupanda Desemba na kushuka Januari hadi Machi, lakini mvua imekuja mapema. KMC ina udhibiti mdogo wa bei kwani viwanda vingi vya nyama vinategemea soko na vituo vidogo visirasi.

Licha ya bei za juu sokoni, KMC inaripoti kuwa idadi ya wateja wao imeongezeka. “Sio kupata faida kubwa tunalenga. Kiwango chetu ni cha chini mno, hivyo wateja wanatujia kwa sababu bei zetu ni nafuu,” aliongeza Mandila.
