Experts propose realistic first steps toward 100 GW solar target

In last Friday's media briefing, two energy experts stressed the need for phased approaches and quick wins to realize the 100 GW solar program targeted for completion before 2029.

IESR CEO Fabby Tumiwa argued that the 100 GW PLTS program must begin with measurable quick wins. He proposed three priority agendas: accelerating dedieselisasi, scaling rooftop solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems, and developing village solar models through cooperatives or BUMDes.

Fabby stated that quick wins are essential to demonstrate the program as a real energy transformation strategy. President Prabowo Subianto had earlier affirmed the government's commitment to accelerate solar development as part of the national energy transition and self-reliance agenda.

Meanwhile University of Indonesia expert Eko Adhi Setiawan suggested starting with a 10 GW pilot project as a proof-of-concept phase. He said this approach is more realistic given human resource readiness and the national solar industry ecosystem before expanding to a larger scale.
