Serikali ya Kenya inapanga kutumia ruzuku ya Sh17 bilioni kuwalinda Wakenya dhidi ya ongezeko la bei za mafuta katika siku 60 zijazo, endapo vita vya Mashariki ya Kati vitaendelea zaidi ya Mei na Juni. Waziri wa Fedha John Mbadi alifichua mipango hii kwa wabunge, pamoja na uwezekano wa kurekebisha ushuru wa bidhaa.

Serikali inapanga kutumia ruzuku ya Sh17 bilioni kuzuia ongezeko la bei za bidhaa za mafuta ikiwa vita vya Mashariki ya Kati vitaendelea. Waziri wa Fedha John Mbadi alielezea mipango hii kwa wabunge jana, akisema serikali itathamini upya ushuru wa bidhaa ikiwa ruzuku haitatosha.

Kampuni za kuuza mafuta zimeshatangaza kuwa bei zinaweza kupanda kwa angalau Sh20 kwa sababu ya gharama za shehena mbili za petroli zilizo nje ya mkataba wa serikali. Hatua ya kurekebisha ushuru wa bidhaa wa asilimia 10 inatarajiwa kusaidia katika kipindi cha Aprili 15 hadi Mei 14.

“Katika ratiba mpya ya bei, hata hivyo, bei ya bidhaa, bima, tishio la vita na ada zinatarajiwa kuongezeka kutokana na vita. Tutabadilisha VAT ili bei zisiwe ghali kupindukia,” Mbadi alisema.

Ruzuku na marekebisho ya ushuru ni mbinu kuu za serikali kuwalinda watumia mafuta katika miezi michache ijayo.
