Karnataka government asks for report on RTC losses after fuel price rise

The Karnataka government has directed the Transport Department to prepare a report on losses faced by state-run road transport corporations due to higher diesel prices.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar made the announcement during a post-Cabinet briefing. He stated that the corporations are suffering huge losses from the diesel price hike.

The request for the report comes amid speculation about possible bus fare revisions. The corporations have faced ongoing financial pressure from increased fuel costs linked to the West Asia war.

Additional strain comes from the Shakti scheme, which provides free travel for women and was launched three years ago. Shivakumar added that employee welfare must also be addressed.
