Wadhibiti wa usafiri Kenya watafuta vikomo vya bei na ruzuku za mafuta

Wadau wa sekta ya usafiri nchini Kenya wameitisha serikali kupiga vikomo vya bei ya diesel kwa Ksh140 na petroli kwa Ksh150 kwa lita moja, na kurejesha ruzuku za mafuta kutokana na ongezeko la bei hivi karibuni. Kikao cha dharura kilifanyika Nairobi leo chini ya Forumu la Sekta ya Usafiri, wakiongozwa na Chama cha Wadhibiti wa Kenya (MAK), na wametoa onyo la hatua za umati kama mahitaji yao hayatazingatiwa.

Wadau wa usafiri, ikiwa ni pamoja na wamiliki wa matatu, madereva wa lori, wa boda boda na wabebaji wa shehe, walikutana Nairobi leo na kutoa orodha ya mahitaji. Katika taarifa ya pamoja, walipendekeza kuifanya Shirika la Taifa la Mafuta la Kenya (NOCK) kuwa chanzo pekee cha mikataba ya serikali kwa serikali (G-to-G) ya mafuta. "Hii ni muhimu ili kuwalinda wanachama wetu kutokana na upungufu bandia, kupambana na uchafuzi wa mafuta na kuondoa unyonyaji mwingine," ilisema taarifa hiyo.

Pia walitaka kurejesha mara moja ruzuku za mafuta kwa kutumia fedha zilizohifadhiwa, na kufuta mfumo wa mapitio ya kila mwezi chini ya Mamlaka ya Kudhibiti Nishati na Mafuta (EPRA). Badala yake, wanapendekeza kurudi kwenye mfumo wa Tume ya Udhibiti wa Nishati (ERC) ambao ulitumia fomula ya kisayansi na kuwashirikisha wadau.

Ongezeko la bei la mafuta limeathiri sekta nzima, ikiathiri bei za matairi, mafuta ya magari na sehemu za vipuri. "Mfumo wa sasa wa bei mbadala umesababisha hasara kubwa katika sekta ya usafiri," walisema. Wanataka onyo la angalau miezi mitatu kabla ya ongezeko lingine la bei na mkutano wa dharura na Waziri Mkuu wa Nishati na Mafuta, Opiyo Wandayi.
