Kawasaki launches third-generation KLE500 adventure bike

Kawasaki has introduced the 2026 KLE500, a sub-500cc adventure motorcycle aimed at novice riders entering the off-road touring segment. The bike features a 451cc parallel-twin engine and offers approachable handling with dual-sport capabilities. Priced from £5999, it competes with options from brands like Honda and CFMOTO.

The Kawasaki KLE500 marks the company's return to the lightweight adventure bike market, targeting riders seeking an accessible entry into adventure touring. Unlike more extreme models, the KLE500 is designed for practical on- and off-road use, with Kawasaki's marketing describing it as 'Life’s a Rally – Ride It!' The third-generation model builds on a steel trellis frame and KYB suspension, paired with a 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear for balanced trail performance.

Key specifications include a 451cc engine derived from the Ninja 500 and Z500, delivering 44bhp and 31lb.ft of torque, with a weight of 195kg and 16-litre fuel tank. The seat height measures 870mm, making it suitable for average-height riders, and the slim waist allows both feet to touch the ground for many. ABS can be fully disengaged for off-road use, and 50/50 IRC Trail Winner tyres provide traction on dusty trails and tarmac.

During a first ride in Andalucia, testers noted the bike's stability and low center of gravity, which aids confidence on scenic trails but limits it on technical rocky terrain due to low ground clearance. The suspension handles ruts and rocks adequately without wobbles, though it lacks traction control. On roads, it maintains 70mph comfortably, but pre-production units showed vibrations through pegs and bars on some bikes. The riding position is roomy, with removable footrest rubbers and small under-seat storage.

Two variants are available: the base model at £5999 with an LCD dash and short screen, and the SE at £6599 adding a TFT display, taller adjustable screen, bash plate, handguards, USB port, and LED indicators. Accessory packs include Rally for off-road enhancements, Adventure Tourer with panniers and crash bars (£7699), and Urban for commuting practicality (£6699). Reliability draws from the shared engine's strong owner ratings on related models.

Overall, the KLE500 offers value and ease for beginners, performing well on byways and twisty roads, though it may not excite experienced off-roaders.
