Lando Norris finished second fastest in FP2 at Spa-Francorchamps but warned against overconfidence ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. McLaren technical director Neil Houldey echoed the sentiment, noting the team still needs to optimize deployment strategies.
Norris improved nearly 1.8 seconds from FP1 to FP2 yet remained unhappy with the car's handling. He said the McLaren was still very difficult to drive despite appearing closer to the front.
"We're certainly not getting ahead of ourselves," Norris stated after the session. He highlighted ongoing issues with electrical deployment on every straight, particularly through Blanchimont where speeds dropped sharply due to low battery.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli set the benchmark in FP2. Norris faces a grid penalty this weekend after McLaren fitted new Mercedes power unit parts. Houldey confirmed the team would spend overnight analyzing data to improve for FP3 and qualifying.
McLaren introduced a new low-drag rear wing for the power circuit but still trails Mercedes in energy management efficiency.
