Huduma ya Polisi ya Taifa (NPS) imetoa sasisho kuhusu uchunguzi unaoendelea wa tukio la vurugu katika Kanisa la ACK Witima huko Othaya, ambapo wanawake na watoto walijeruhiwa. Kiongozi wa Upinzani Mshirika Rigathi Gachagua ametangaza kuwa atazuru ofisi ya Inspekta Mkuu wa Polisi Douglas Kanja Jumatatu ili kujua maendeleo. Tukio la vurugu katika Kanisa la ACK Witima huko Othaya lilitokea wiki kadhaa zilizopita wakati wa ibada ambayo Rigathi Gachagua alihudhuria. Muuzaji wa NPS Muchiri Nyaga alisema, "Kama ilivyo kwa uchunguzi wote wa uhalifu, mafanikio na kasi ya mchakato hutegemea sana ripoti rasmi, akaunti za kina za shahidi, na ushirikiano wa walalamishi na wananchi."

NPS inaomba yeyote mwenye taarifa atangulie, ikisisitiza kuwa ushirikiano wa umma ni muhimu. Wanahakikisha kutegemea usawa na uaminifu.

Gachagua, akiongea katika ibada ya kanisa huko Roysambu Februari 15, 2026, alisema, “Kesho, tutarudi kwa Inspekta Mkuu wa Polisi. Tulikuwa huko wiki mbili zilizopita, tukitafuta kujua ni nani alishambulia kanisa na kwa nini hawajashitakiwa bado.” Anamlaumu IG Kanja kwa kutotanguliza uchunguzi licha ya ushahidi unaounganisha maafisa wa polisi na mashambulizi.

Ziara hii inafuata kukutana mara ya kwanza wiki mbili zilizopita kuhusu vitisho dhidi ya viongozi wa upinzani. Rais William Ruto alilaani vurugu hiyo, akisema, “Hebu tujiulize kama Wanakenya; tunaweza fanya siasa, tunaweza tafuta uongozi, lakini ikifika kanisani, hiyo ni mahali pa heshima.” Alionya dhidi ya kuleta siasa katika makanisa.

Tukio hilo limezua mjadala kati ya upinzani na serikali, ambapo NPS ilisema Gachagua na washirika wake walipaswa kuwajulisha mamlaka za eneo.
